FAQs: General Workshop Questions

Studio C is a tile art learning space by Carly Quinn Designs in Tucson, Arizona. The studio offers ceramic tile glazing workshops inspired by the centuries-old cuerda seca technique.

Studio C is located at 730 South Stone Avenue in Tucson, Arizona. It is separate from the Carly Quinn Designs gallery, which is located nearby at 711 South 6th Avenue.

Yes. Free street parking is available along Stone Avenue and surrounding neighborhoods.

Cuerda seca is a traditional ceramic glazing technique that uses wax outlines to separate glaze colors. The process creates vibrant, detailed tile art inspired by Southwest and traditional ceramic design.

Studio C offers:

Beginner tile glazing workshops
Intermediate mural and address sign workshops
Advanced draw-your-own-design tile workshops
Open studio sessions for returning students
Private group workshops and corporate events

Most beginner workshops are approximately 2 hours long. Intermediate murals, advanced workshops, and private events may run 2-4 hours depending on the project.

No experience is required for beginner workshops. There is a Studio C workshop for every skill levels, and instructors guide participants step by step through the glazing process. For beginners, try a “Glaze a 6” Tile” workshop.

Yes. Studio C recommends starting with a beginner workshop before moving into larger mural or advanced design projects.

Workshops include ceramic tile, glaze materials, tools, instruction, and kiln firing. Some workshops also include cork backing for finished tiles.

Yes. Participants are encouraged to choose their own color palette during the glazing process.

In beginner workshops, additional pre-outlined tiles are available for purchase during your session. Check with our team at events@carlyquinndesigns.com to request a specific design in advance.

Yes, this is a wonderful activity for children when accompanied by an adult. We recommend age 7+ (beginner workshops). Please contact us to ask about whether a workshop is a fit for younger ages.

Most workshops provide all materials. Advanced workshops may require participants to bring sketches or design ideas for their projects.

FAQs: Finished Project Pickup

Your tile will be kiln fired by the Studio C team. Your tile will be ready in approximately 3-5 days after your workshop. If you request your tile or mural to be framed, it will take 2-3 weeks. We will let you know when your project is ready for pickup, but you are always welcome to email us for a status (events@carlyquinndesigns.com).

Yes. Shipping is available for finished tiles for an additional cost.

Because ceramic glazing is a hand painting art process, tiles may have natural variations, glaze movement, pinholes, or small imperfections created during kiln firing. Each tile is unique. While the instructor will provide guidance, imperfections are expected as you learn this technique.
